Spread
in a north–south direction along the east bank of the Hooghly River, Kolkata is
a riverine beauty that makes it a perfect city to spend Valentine’s Day. You
don’t have to drive, fly or travel to some faraway place to have a beautiful
Valentine’s Day with the love of your life. It’s possible to have a memorable
one in the city of joy itself.
I
planned this schedule for Valentine’s day this year & had a marvellous time
with my fiancé.
Here’s what I did-
1)
Needless to say, this is one day of the year at
least, when getting flowers & gifts for your girl is a must. I wanted the
gift to be really special & at the same time I hate shopping. But I had no
trouble with that. I just ordered a nice romantic
combo of flower & chocolate bouquet from Florist Xpress. This online flower & gift delivery site,
delivered the gifts to me in the morning at the time I choose. I surprised my
fiancé with it at the breakfast table at Flurys.
2)
As we sat in the legendary tearoom of Flurys, I
gave her the gifts. She was surprised & open-mouthed on getting them.
Savouring the hot cup of tea along with English breakfast-bread & bacons,
we watched the morning pass by through the large glass windows. It was a
perfect start for the romantic day in Kolkata.
3)
Then we went to the Millenium Park & took a
leisure stroll with hand in hand away from the din & bustle of the chaotic
city and yes, there are such places in Kolkata.
4)
Then we hoped on the heritage transport of the
city- the tram. Its lazy pace was an enchanting way to relish the beauty of
this once capital of India.
5)
Then the biggest part of the day- the sunset. It
has to be romantic on this one day of the year. I choose what is inarguably the
most romantic place in the city-the Princep Ghat. Here, the Hoogly river back is exceptionally beautified by
the stunning monument made in Gothic-Greek architecture style. If the
river, the golden sunset & the famous Palladian porch doesn’t make your
woman all lovey-dovey, then nothing will.
6)
Then comes what is the most boring part for me
& I believe for most guys-Shopping. But I bore with it as it is one of the
favourite things for my fiancé. We went to the historic New Market.
7)
But of course I had backup plan to pull her out
of there-romantic movie at 10 o’clock & we went to the paradise of
movie-buffs- Nandan. Then I dropped her off at residence- it was past midnight,
but this one day of the year it’s ok.
Well this is what I did. But of
course, you can have many other ways to make this a day worth reminiscing - like
driving to Raichak, taking a walk in Victoria Memorial, having the breakfast at
ITC Sonar Bangla…the list can go on. I bet before you read this you didn’t
think that there are so many options to make a spectacular valentine’s day in
good old Kolkata.
